“The Art of Travel Photography” 1 Day Photo Workshop

Finally I am announcing the first date for my NEW one-day THE ART OF TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHY workshop. The workshop is for owners of DSLR cameras but also has much to offer for Point & Shoot Users. You won’t be shooting on the day but you will be learning more about the ART of PHOTOGRAPHY in order to help you get the most out of your travel images (whether they are from home or abroad).

We will look at DESIGN and COMPOSITION, not only when you are shooting but in the output of your images as well. The course assumes a basic understanding of your DSLR but there will be plenty of time to ask any questions throughout the day…and for those keen, there will be time for a drink after the course finishes if you’d like to hang around a little longer…first one is on me!

This will be a day full of CREATIVITY, INSPIRATION & MOTIVATION

MORNING SESSION: In the morning we will look at how to capture the images. We will discuss;

  • Planning the trip/gear and important tips/best times to shoot
  • What to take/What to leave at home
  • Colour & Mood
  • Maximising the moment
  • Shooting with output in mind
  • Lens Choice & Filters
  • Pre-visualisation & Planning
  • Telling a Story
  • Light & Composition
  • Image Orientation
  • Using the Exposure Triangle to control the look of your images…and much more!

The wonderful thing about travel photography is that it encompasses all genres.

We’ll discuss techniques for shooting;

  • LANDSCAPE
  • PEOPLE
  • FOOD
  • WILDLIFE
  • FESTIVALS…and much, much more!

All of this will be presented in a laid back classroom setting with a digital projector to illustrate the concepts that are being discussed. Questions are welcomed throughout these sessions and notes will be provided, allowing you to concentrate on the presentation. Lunch will also be provided, giving everyone a break and an opportunity to discuss the morning session before we move onto SHOW & TELL in the afternoon session. Here you will see examples of how you can output your images on prints/photobooks/home furnishings…and even jewellery!

AFTERNOON SESSION: You’ve taken some FABULOUS images, you come home, flick through them and……now what?

In the afternoon session we will talk about OUTPUT. Although we don’t cover Photoshop techniques, we will look at basic photo editing & retouching and discuss options for further self-education on this topic.

Many people love the idea of having a digital book published at one of hundreds of online photo-book sites but then forget about all the rules of mood/colour and composition when putting their actual books together. The afternoon session will cover;

DIGITAL PHOTO BOOKS
-Basic design principals
-Fonts/Text…How to use them and where to find them
-Colour/Mood & Grouping
-The AIM of the book (telling a story)
-Composition within the BOOK itself
-Various output options – comparing prices & quality
VIRTUAL PUBLISHING
-How & Why
WALL PRINTS – and the many options available
-Canvas
-Acrylic
-Ice Mount…and what these terms all mean!!
BASIC SLIDESHOWS
-Software available & music
SELLING YOUR WORK
-Submitting to Editors
-Stock Libraries

This really is your chance to learn more than just ‘how to use your camera’ it is a chance to learn the principals that will help turn your photography into art! DO NOT let your images and memories sit on a dusty hard-drive never seeing the light of day…come along to this workshop and learn firstly HOW to take better travel images and then be inspired to create an artwork that you will be proud of.

“Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere.”  ~ Chinese Proverb
